i've been out of things recently.
so how are you? and what is your favourite meal at the moment? i want to try more recipes from nigel slater's most wonderful tender, vol II. what a precious book.
+++ you just know how to lift my spirits! the list of dishes i want to try gets longer and longer... by the way: would any of you have a recommendation for the perfect carrot cake (in the race at the moment: carrot cake from 'breakfast lunch and tea' and a tear-out from a magazine? +++

no time to wander around with the camera at the moment, feeling very rushed and restless, so it's back to the archives. this is my mum, back in the early 1960s, enjoying some time off (which was rare enough). makes me want to go to the sea, or for a good hike. she does look happy on the first one, no?
p.s.: love seeing so many of you over on pininterest. yay! let me know if you need an invite to join, i still have a couple.

how come february feels like the longest month in the northern hemisphere even though it's undoubtedly the shortest? i've definitely reached a point of winter saturation. and yet, it's snowing outside this morning. i guess it will be all the more wonderful when spring finally comes.
recently, i was introduced to a little restaurant in my neighbourhood, which i've completely fallen for. schaedel & sattler is just the kind of place that gets me: simple and friendly, serving honest food. that, plus it's located in a new building, in which i think the bare concrete walls, a trait that has become ubiquitous in contemporary architecture and sometimes seems a little uninspired, works prefectly. more about them soon on mostly berlin.
oh, and i've finally started using pininterest. (as per usual, i'm a little late to the party, but hey.) if you like to take a look at my pinboards of images that inspire me, you can do so here. want to join in?

first of all: thanks for bearing with me, i only just got round to drawing a winner of my giveaway for a 20 x 30 cm print. to make up for the wait, i have decided to draw two winners. they are: elisabelle and astrid. drop me an email (see right) with your choice from my blog or flickr. thanks for playing, for reading and commenting!
yesterday, i was invited to a friend's house. there was much laughter, a lot of home-made pizza and cake and some intense dinosaur-book-reading with a pretty cool four-year old guy. what somehow just came back to me, is that one of us said in the course of the evening: 'we always want what we don't have'. is that true?

i'm afraid i've used up all existing brain cells on my current projects, so surely, the best is to just leave you with some pictures. (it's fun to play around with the new macro lens, although i'm only starting to find out what it can do!)

sooner or later everybody ends up in the kitchen. i wonder: is that some primal instinct of gathering around the fire? or is it just because of the food... (these photos were taken recently at k's and p's new year's toast, which i mentioned before.)
yesterday was a busy but very happy day: lots of work, but also a surprise parcel from the boyfriend with a new lens! you should have seen the smile on my face! so now i've got a 50 mm/2.8 f macro for the pentax and the first roll is almost full. i'm a very happy girl indeed!
oh, and before i forget, i really wanted to let you know about valerie's food blog nettle and quince: i'm rather taken by the orange thyme pancakes and the crêpes. to me, her blog is all about earthy, honest food. to think that she cooks all this for her family and manages to photograph it so nicely: chapeau!
happy weekend! (don't forget the blog birthday giveaway, you can still enter today and tomorrow (sun 6 feb).

sometimes all it takes, is taking a camera to your friends' party. they had a new year's toast the other day, which was so nice.
i like how much drama there is in light and darkness. these were taken with my nikkormat EL, some kodak b/w (400 asa) and my favourite 50mm/1.4f lens.
how's your week going?
i'm still frantically busy.
thinking of everyone in australia. this freak weather is so scary.
